For the duration of the Jomon period (10,000 BCE - 300 BCE) some very intriguing pottery was designed. The Jomon individuals utilized open pits to fire their pottery, which incorporated mostly huge vessels and clay figurines called dogu. Several nicely-identified modern potters have been inspired by the capabilities of Jomon pottery.
