Overstock is an online retailer. It was founded in 1997 by Robert Brazell. The original name of the company was D2: Discounts Direct. It was the first of the kind amongst companies that sold surplus merchandise. When the company failed in 1999, Patrick M Byrne acquired it and re launched it under a new name. This is how Overstock was born. In the beginning the company sold surplus and returned merchandise at extremely low prices.
